WASHINGTON -- Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo today announced the appointment of Margaret Sullivan as HUD Chief of Staff.

Sullivan, who was Chief of Staff to the U.S. Trade Representative for the past year, will begin work Monday by accompanying Cuomo and other top HUD staff on a day-long trip to Baltimore.

Sullivan, 35, formerly worked as Special Assistant to Defense Secretary William Perry, as a Policy Adviser to Congressman Richard Gephardt, and as a staffer for the House Intelligence Committee and the House Armed Services Committee.

"Margie Sullivan will play a key role in improving the management and performance of HUD to help us succeed in our mission and to ensure we have zero tolerance for waste, fraud and abuse," Cuomo said. "She's an important addition to the outstanding leadership team at HUD."

Cuomo thanked Michael Stegman, Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research, for serving as Acting Chief of Staff since late last year.
