Deputy Secretary Alphonso Jackson has been inducted into the Texas chapter of the NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials) Hall of Fame. This honor is extended to leaders who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and leadership in promoting affordable housing and community development.
"I am extremely humbled by this honor, but I know there is so much more to do," said Jackson. "President Bush, Secretary Martinez and I are committed to improving housing conditions, increasing homeownership and protecting the vulnerable. The tireless efforts that NAHRO supports are exactly the type of leadership with which I am proud to be associated." Deputy Secretary Jackson is the former President and CEO of the Dallas, Texas, Housing Authority, and a past president of the Texas Chapter of NAHRO.
The award was presented by Apolonio Flores, the former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Authority of the City of San Antonio and a past national President of NAHRO.
"I have known Deputy Secretary Alphonso Jackson for more than 20 years and I am well aware of his accomplishments," Flores said. "Mr. Jackson brought the Dallas Housing Authority into the 21st Century and has a record of remarkable service in housing and community development. Mr. Jackson also distinguished himself in the private industry as President of AEP-Texas, and has now returned to public service as Deputy Secretary of HUD where he will undoubtedly continue his distinguished public service."
Deputy Secretary Jackson is just the fifth person inducted to the prestigious Texas NAHRO Hall of Fame. The Texas chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials is an organization comprised of affordable housing and community development professionals whose focus is to enhance affordable housing and community development opportunities in the state of Texas.
