Most employees have heard that the Department will face a major new challenge in about two years. More than half of HUD's most experienced field and Headquarters career staff will be eligible to retire, but essential HUD programs will need skilled, creative and experienced staff and managers more than ever. To help meet the challenge of continuing high-quality assistance to millions of families and thousands of communities, the HUD Training Academy (HTA) has developed a new Management and Leadership program to train and prepare the HUD leaders of the future.

For men and women committed to making a difference - and an interest in advancing in their careers - this promising new HTA program features four distinct curricula of learning for both field and Headquarters employees.

  • Emerging Leaders Lab
  • Supervisors University
  • Management Forum
  • Executive Excellence

The HTA is beginning the Management and Leadership program with a Supervisor Survival Seminar, one part of the Supervisors University curricula. The goal is to better equip both current and emerging supervisors with the skills and tools they need to successfully lead and manage their team. A recent pilot of this seminar in Fort Worth, Texas, was rated "Excellent" by 67% of the respondents, with the other 33% rating it "Very Good."

  • "Each and every supervisor should attend this training. It reenergized me to be a better and more productive supervisor."
  • "I received very good, usable information. It has reinvigorated me. I hope it will enable me to become a better supervisor."
  • "I enjoyed the BrainTrust Panel immensely. Excellent, experienced people who could speak from HUD experience."

This is your opportunity to become part of the next generation of HUD's leadership and help ensure the success of the Department's mission. For registration information and a full listing of available courses, contact the HTA at 202-708-3368. The HTA will continue to launch courses in its Management and Leadership curricula throughout fiscal year 2002 and in 2003. Each and every HUD employee with a forward-looking career development plan should communicate with their supervisor about which courses in the curricula will serve them best.

If you have additional questions about the Supervisor Survivor Seminar or the Management and Leadership curricula, please contact Ann Grandy, Administrator, HUD Training Academy at 202-708-3368.

On Monday, June 3rd, between 3:00 and 3:30 PM, the Office of Administration will test the Public Address System in HUD Headquarters. Please excuse any noise distraction the test may cause - but be aware that this is ONLY a test.
