Making HUD a Better Workplace: Better Lighting, Brighter Lobbies, and Keeping Employees up with "Who's Who" on Martinez's Senior Staff

Tuesday, August 06, 2002

Early this year, Secretary Martinez and Deputy Secretary Jackson said that making the HUD workplace a better workplace for all HUD employees was a top priority. Things are looking better at HUD - and employees are seeing the difference!

Starting several months ago, people in HUD Headquarters began to comment that the elevator corridors were more brightly lighted - from the basement to the 10th floor - a welcome improvement. And on Monday, August 5th, staff going through the north and south entrances saw an enhanced environment that softened the stark grayish/brown stone lobby walls. The colorful additions include photographs of Secretary Martinez's management team: the Deputy Secretary, the Assistant Secretaries and other senor policy officials, identified by name; and a new, bright carpet runner in the elevator corridors with the photograph of every HUD Secretary in the Department's history mounted above the elevators themselves.

Many more improvements and changes are planned or will begin soon in HUD HQ and other HUD offices across the country. The Department has put much time and effort into "throwing a light on the subject," and also helping to put a name with a face for the Department's most senior, presidential-appointed managers.
