A recent ribbon-cutting ceremony in Lexington Kentucky highlighted the Showcase of Homes at The Arbors, a $19.3 million dollar HOPE VI revitalization area - a dramatic and welcome change from the desolate neighborhood it replaced.

The Arbors was made possible through a partnership between HUD, the Lexington Housing Authority, Lexington-Fayette (urban county) government, and Minnifield-Cutter-Ball, a nonprofit organization of homebuilders. The Arbors is a residential community of 95 homes developed along with 25 scattered sites, and replaces the Charlotte Court housing development: deteriorating, 60-year-old barracks-style public housing. It was an upbeat day for the neighborhood and the city, and the celebrants included many of the partners that helped make dreams come true in this HOPE VI revitalization area. They included, from the left, Lexington Housing Authority Director Austin Simms, Lexington Mayor Pam Miller, developer Don Ball, the Kentucky HUD Office's Robin Penick, developers Tony Cutter and Frankie Minnifield - and two young celebrants, who represent the future of the community.
