A Special Holiday Greeting from Secretary Martinez

Tuesday, December 24, 2002

I'm pleased to send my best wishes for a joyous holiday season to every HUD employee, our partners and clients, and to all of your families. 2002 has been a year of recovery and renewal for our nation. We entered the year uncertain about the months ahead, but today, as December comes to a close, America is strong and united.

The men and women of HUD have been critically important in moving this country forward, and I am proud of all of you. Together, we are making communities stronger and offering families new opportunities to prosper. Millions of Americans are celebrating the holidays this year in ways that would have been impossible if the HUD family and our partners in every part of America had not reached out a strong helping hand. Thank you for your compassion and commitment.

President Bush recognizes that the Department is doing important work. I hope you understand that we have no stronger supporter than President Bush as we work to lift up families through homeownership, help local businesses create new jobs at a decent wage, and create new opportunities and possibilities for communities across the country.

Today, the blessings of family and country are foremost in our thoughts. As the war against terrorism continues, I ask that you keep the men and women of the military in your prayers.

2003 is going to be a great year at HUD - and I am glad that you are part of our family and part of our team. Continue your good work, keep up your commitment, and please have a safe and blessed holiday season.
