Tuesday, June 03, 2003

Want to buy a new home for an affordable price with a decent interest rate? Would you make a 'small investment' for some 'insider' homebuying information? It's easy, it's legal, and you're invited: just "invest" an hour or two at the HUD Employee Homeownership Fair on Tuesday, June 17th, in the HUD Cafeteria, or via HUD-TV!

HUD employees in Headquarters and across the country will be treated to virtually "one-stop-shopping" on the homebuying process, and the Fair will pay special attention to first-time homebuyer programs. It's the best kind of insider information, from the men and women who understand homeownership inside out! Because HUD's February Employee Homeownership Fair was such a success, HUD's June Homeownership Fair will be bigger, better - and designed as one-stop shopping for potential homebuyers - and just two weeks from today, on Tuesday, June 17th.

This is a "one HUD" Homeownership Fair: Headquarters staff (or those traveling to HQ for business) can take part in the HUD Cafeteria, from 10:45 AM to 2:30 PM. Staff in HUD field offices can take advantage of many of the Homeownership Fair's benefits by tuning in to HUD TV for the satellite broadcast.

Anyone who takes part in the 2003 Homeownership Fair - from our most important clients, HUD staff (and their families if they'd like to attend!); to federal workers from nearby departments and agencies, other government workers, contract employees and more - will have a unique opportunity to jump-start the homebuying process. The goal of the fair is not just to help anyone become a first time homebuyer, but also to make more informed, money-saving decisions in the future. The Fair will appeal to those who are just starting out; those who already have done some research and want to ask follow-up questions; and even those who are trying to decide if homeownership is for them.

HUD's June 17th fair will feature a major innovation - a presentation about the advantages of HUD's Federal Housing Administration mortgage products for first time homebuyers. You'll feel like an insider when you hear about seven different FHA products, and have easy access to information tables staffed by knowledgeable HUD employees waiting to discuss the details of FHA mortgage products with you.

Potential homebuyers who were unable to attend the first Fair should consider attending a workshop dedicated to a key tool in the homebuying process, HUD-approved housing counselors. Many potential homebuyers across the nation have benefited from the assistance available from these organizations, and more than 30 are located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area alone.

Are you financially fit or is debt getting you down? A credit-counseling agency will be on hand to help you do the Financial Fitness Checklist. Heard about HUD Homes and need to know more? Another workshop will show you how to purchase a HUD home and the means to view nationwide lists of these properties. Confused about the how to apply for a loan and working with real estate agents? Another new feature will be the presence of four different real estate and lending organizations, who will help you sort out this part of the homebuying process.

You also will be able to get helpful information about buying/refinancing your home, home inspections, home improvement programs, and homebuyer seminars. Representatives from the Housing Finance Agencies of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC will describe what programs they offer.

The Fair is part of HUD's celebration of National Homeownership Month. If you're thinking about buying a home, you can't afford to miss it! Visit HUD's Homeownership Page for an upcoming schedule and other updates.

The Fair is part of HUD's celebration of National Homeownership Month, and will be held at the 451 Seventh Street SW, Washington, DC 20410.
