FHEO Luncheon Series to Focus on Fair Housing Issues Facing Washington-area Hispanics

Tuesday, July 08, 2003

Today's weekly FHEO luncheon presentation will feature Sonia Gutierrez who will discuss fair housing challenges facing Washington-area Hispanics. Ms. Gutierrez is the fair housing coordinator for the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development.

The luncheon series, held every Tuesday at noon in room 5202, features a variety of speakers who discuss current local and national fair housing issues. Videos are often shown, and each session includes group discussion as well as personal testimonies.

Next Tuesday, July 15th, Gregory Squires, chairman of George Washington University's Sociology Department, will preview his soon-to-be-published article titled "Racial Profiling, Insurance Style." One of the nation's foremost experts on discrimination in homeowner's insurance, Dr. Squires also will discuss recent changes he has made to the fair housing recommendations he wrote in "Housing Policy Debate," a publication published by the Fannie Mae Foundation.

All HUD employees are invited to attend. For more information about the luncheon series, or to make recommendations for future sessions, contact Bryan Greene, FHEO's director of policy and program evaluation, at ext. 7078, or Beth Frank, ext. 4033.
