Buffalo Office Creates "Remembrance Park"

Wednesday, September 24, 2003

As a tribute to those who died two years ago during the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Buffalo Field Office staff received permission from the City to adopt a nearby triangle of downtown green space, which they then transformed into "Remembrance Park."

Using money from the office "coffee fund" and from donations, employees purchased a flagpole, benches, mulch, dirt and flowers as their first installment in creating the downtown setting where passers-by can reflect on and remember the victims of that horrific day.

Over the past several months the staff raised more money -- enough to purchase a permanent marker, the beginning of a stone walkway and 250 flowering bulbs that they will plant this fall.

"Remembrance Park" will be an ongoing effort by the staff who have committed to pruning, weeding and adding more plants to keep the park as a living tribute.
