World AIDS Day 2003

Monday, December 01, 2003

Today is World AIDS Day. In observance of the day, the Department is joining with other federal, state and local agencies and international organizations to remember those who have died or are living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

CPD's Office of HIV/AIDS Housing is coordinating the Department's observance with help from the Office of Rural Housing Economic Development, GLOBE, the Health Unit, the Employee Assistance Program and AFGE Local 476.

The theme of the Department's observance is "AIDS in Rural America." Both the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS - HOPWA - and the Rural Housing and Economic Development - RHED - programs will be featured today at the observance that runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South end of the HUD Cafeteria.

Information will be distributed at the observance and two videotapes will be shown: "HOPWA: Hope and Housing for People with AIDS" and the "Alabama Rural AIDS Project." These tapes may also be viewed from a link on the HUD webpage.
