2005 Holiday Daily Message
By Secretary Alphonso Jackson

Thursday, December 22, 2005

As we prepare for this holiday season, I want to take a moment to extend my sincere appreciation and best wishes to the HUD family. Your outstanding service to this Department and the many lives you touch continues to inspire me and for that, I am truly grateful.

2005 has been a very challenging year for this country and its citizens. We have experienced one of the most tragic series of natural disasters ever to strike America. These natural disasters, particularly Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, have ripped through the Gulf Coast causing widespread destruction.

The HUD family was deeply saddened by these catastrophic events. So during this holiday season, I want the people of the Gulf Coast to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I also want to thank everyone at HUD, for your kindness and all that you have done to aid these displaced families. The caring men and women of this Department have helped these families begin to put their lives back together and I am extremely grateful to all of you for this.

As you gather with your family this holiday season, please take a moment to remember those brave men and women who are fighting oversees in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect our way of life. These courageous Americans are sacrificing so much abroad so that we can enjoy freedom and liberties here at home. Please keep them and the communities along the Gulf Coast in your thoughts and prayers.

May you and your family enjoy a warm, safe and happy holiday season.
