It was a bitter cold afternoon but that did not diminish the enthusiasm felt by all who attended the grant announcement. Councilman Brooks, who is well known in the community for his work helping local youth find a life outside drugs and crime, provided inspiring remarks about manhood, responsibility and integrity. The students shared their personal experiences with the Youthbuild Program and their plans for the future. They stood proudly, holding the Youthbuild check, in front of a house they are currently building at 5614 College. Just next door are two completed Youthbuild homes that are currently for sale for lower income families.
