A Message from Secretary Alphonso Jackson - Eleventh Anniversary of the 1995 Terrorist Attack on America

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Eleven years ago today a terrorist attacked innocent American civilians in Oklahoma City, taking the lives of 168 innocent men, women, and children. The victims included 35 members of the HUD family.

Let us pause today to remember and honor our colleagues as dedicated public servants. Some accounts called them "ordinary Americans," but they were much more than that - they were mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, friends and mentors who touched many lives. As we mourn their deaths, we also celebrate the way in which they uplifted the Oklahoma community.

I want to acknowledge the survivors and thank the staff of HUD's Oklahoma City Office on this day of remembrance. You have moved forward with resolve, continuing to carry out HUD's work with great commitment, compassion, and professionalism.

Thank you for your continuing service to HUD and to America.
