Kentucky Commission of Human Rights (KCHR) executive director Linda Murnane was the mistress of ceremonies. Commission chair Priscilla Johnson, a long-time fair housing and human rights advocate, accompanied her. Using HUD's Fair Housing Assistance Program, the KCHR investigates housing discrimination complaints throughout the Commonwealth.
HUD Louisville field office director Krista Mills and HUD Louisville Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Program Center director Vicki Ray carried HUD's Fair Housing Month message through their presence and support of the event.
Governor Fletcher reflected on the Commonwealth's rich history of being one of the major centers of the nation's civil rights movement. Although there is still work to be done, many barriers have been overcome through the years, and today the citizens of Kentucky are steadily moving towards racial reconciliation. Our fair housing partners throughout the Commonwealth are taking an active role in continuing to fight discrimination in housing. Their goal is to ensure equal rights in housing choice for all citizens regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status or disability.
