A representative of Accent Mortgage Company takes mortgage application from participant in housing fair co-sponsored by HUD and Birmingham Association of Realtist.

The Birmingham HUD office was joined by mortgage bankers and brokers, Realtors and Realtists, housing counselors, fair housing advocates and appraisers at an afternoon Homeownership Fair at Century Plaza, a Birmingham area mall. Drawn by advertisements in the Birmingham News and a favorable mention on a local talk show, over 100 potential homebuyers attended. Mortgage brokers qualified several prospective homebuyers on the spot for mortgages they previously thought were beyond their reach. Others made valuable contacts with real estate professionals or housing counselors that will move them toward homeownership. Inspired by the enthusiasm of the crowd, the housing industry professionals hope to repeating the event at other venues in the Birmingham area.
