2005 CPD Technical Assistance Awards
The FY 2005 technical assistance grants announced on February 16, 2006 will:
- Assist local communities to better manage their Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs - $939,000;
- Help communities to produce more affordable housing through HUD's HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) program - $7 million;
- Support Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) around the country to provide decent housing opportunities that are affordable to lower income persons - $6.9 million;
- Improve the effectiveness of homeless assistance programs funded by HUD's Continuum of Care Programs -$9.1 million;
- Strengthen the management of local AIDS housing programs funded under Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) - $1.9 million; and,
- Aid public and nonprofit organizations receiving funding under HUD's Youthbuild Program to construct affordable housing while training at-risk young people in the construction trades - $ 3.0 million.
CDBG Technical Assistance
Four national community development organizations will receive funding to assist more than a thousand communities to better management their Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs. Over the past 30 years, CDBG has awarded approximately $112 billion to state and local governments to target their own community development priorities.

Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Technical Assistance HOPWA technical assistance trains current and prospective grantees to design and implement comprehensive strategies to meet the complex housing and service needs of persons living with AIDS and their families. Housing assistance and the support services funded by the HOPWA program are a vital part of caring for those living with HIV/AIDS. Youthbuild Technical Assistance Two national technical assistance providers will receive funding to improve programs funded under HUD's Youthbuild program. Youthbuild grantees provide young people between the ages of 16 and 24 with on-the-job training to acquire the construction skills necessary to build and renovate single-family homes and multi-family apartments.
