Affordable Housing Complex Opens Its Doors

The Housing Authority of the City of Waterbury (WHA) held an open house on the newest addition to its public housing portfolio: 63 Willow Street. HUD Hartford Field Office Director Suzanne Piacentini and HUD CT Public Housing Director Jennifer Gottlieb Elazhari joined Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary, WHA Executive Director Maureen Voghel, and WHA Chairman Judge James Lawlor.

The opening of 63 Willow Street is the fruition of WHA's efforts to carry out its mission of contributing to neighborhood revitalization in concert with the development of affordable housing. The new construction includes 4 units, 2 upper level and 2 lower level, one of which is handicap accessible.

HUD provided over $800,000 in funding for the construction, through HUD's Development and Capital Funds. The modular building was constructed in Selinsgrove, PA and transported to Waterbury, where the interior work was completed. The new tenants will move in this June.
