New Knollwood Civic Association Begins Work
on Houses Acquired for Rehabilitation and Resale

The New Knollwood Civic Association has begun work on one of seven houses acquired for rehabilitation and resale, as part of a HUD-funded $625,000 HOME Grant to New Castle County. Knollwood, a close-knit community of approximately 500 residents, currently has a 60% homeownership rate. The rehabilitation effort, which anticipates the acquisition and rehabilitation of 30 homes, is intended to strengthen the Claymont area by helping residents become homeowners. In addition to the rehabilitation of homes, the development's Community Center used a $30,000 HUD Community Development Block Grant to enhance a handicap-accessible concrete entrance ramp, refurbish a handicap-accessible rest room, and pave a parking lot.
