Cynthia Ferrell, Fair Housing Specialist and Krista Bowersox, Operations Analyst, both of HUD's Des Moines Field Office, visited Stowe Elementary School on April 15 in celebration of Fair Housing Education Day in America. Sixty-five 5th graders marked the 41st anniversary of the Fair Housing Act by learning about the landmark legislation that makes it illegal to discriminate in housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability.

The class discussed various forms of discrimination, played games about fair housing regulation, and all class members received a Certificate of Completion. The class members took home not only information on fair housing, but on affordable housing and home ownership, information that could assist their families. Stowe Elementary Principal, Dawn Vetter, received a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Bruce Ray, Field Office Director.
