On March 23, 2012, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $110.8 million in Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration and Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control (LBPHC) grants. The funds were given to 43 community projects focused on creating safe and healthy homes. The City of Marshalltown, IA was awarded $2,480,000 of these funds for LBPHC.

HUD Field Office Director Steve Eggleston attended a City Council meeting in Marshalltown on April 16 to present a ceremonial check. This latest LBPHC grant is the fourth of its kind received by the city. Marshalltown has successfully used previous LBPHC grants to abate lead paint. They helped make 467 housing units clean and safe since 2003. The most recent grant will be used to make 125 housing units in Marshall, Tama, and Hardin Counties lead-safe over the next three years.
