HUD Great Plains Jason Mohr joined City of Cedar Rapids officials on Thursday, April 19, for an award ceremony to present nearly $40,000 to provide a permanent home to veterans experiencing homelessness.

In an April 6 news release, HUD announced the award of more than 87,000 vouchers nationwide. Those vouchers combine rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the Veterans Administration (VA.)

The Iowa City VA Health Care System will identify homeless veterans who are eligible for the services and housing vouchers and refer the vets to the housing agency.

The City of Cedar Rapids received 12 vouchers through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program.
