HUD AWARDS THE COEUR d'ALENE TRIBE $500,000 IN GRANTS TO IMPROVE HOUSING AND SPUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

BOISE - The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the Coeur d'Alene Tribe a $500,000 grant.
The Tribe will use the funding for the rehabilitation of approximately 34 to 48 housing units. For more information, contact Ceilo Gibson of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe at 208-686-1927.

The funding is from HUD's Indian Community Development Block Grant Program. This competitive grant program was established in 1977 to provide special Community Development Block Grant funding mechanisms for Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages to meet their community development needs.

HUD is the nation's housing agency committed to increasing homeownership, particularly among minorities, creating affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans, supporting the homeless, elderly, people with disabilities and people living with AIDS. The Department also promotes economic and community development as well as
enforces the nation's fair housing laws. More information about HUD and its programs is available on the Internet
