The Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) has been conditionally re-designated an official HUD Fair Housing Assistance Program Agency. Floyd May, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget in HUD's Fair Housing Division came to Chicago on November 1, 2002 to commemorate the event with local HUD employees and employees of the State Agency.

The IDHR previously served as a Fair Housing Assistance Program agency. The Department recently reached an agreement with the IDHR for their conditional re-designation as a substantially equivalent agency for purposes of fair housing enforcement activities. Mr. May's visit coincided with an intensive, weeklong training session for IDHR staff and new HUD employees on investigation, conciliation, as well as other aspects of fair housing enforcement.
