Mayor Richard M. Daley stopped by the HUD booth at the annual Camino A Su Casa, the 12th annual bilingual housing fair held recently at the West Side Technical Institute in Chicago. The Mayor is pictured here, from left, with Hazel McLemore of HUD's single family division, Joy Street, a student at Holy Angles School, and Rebecca Trujillo of HUD's Chicago Fair Housing Division.

Mayor Daley welcomed visitors to the fair, which is designed to educate Latinos and first time homebuyers on the steps to homeownership. The Mayor said, "Ownership is the key to developing strong neighborhoods, and that is why the City of Chicago partners with great organizations like Spanish Coalition for Housing- to keep Chicago's neighborhoods affordable for people of every age, income and background." The free event provided details on a number of City-sponsored homeownership programs for residents, which offer purchase price, down payment and closing cost assistance, as well as federal income tax credits on purchase and rehab loans.

More than 45 organizations, including HUD, provided expert information and step-by-step advice on the home buying process through panel discussions in Spanish and English on buying, refinancing or rehabbing a home.
