HUD Kentucky Office Participates in First Veteran Intake Event
Written by: David Railey
At least a dozen veterans recently brought their issues to the Cub Run Elementary School in Cub Run, Kentucky for a veteran intake event sponsored by Judge/Executive Terry Martin of Hart County, Kentucky. The event offered veterans the opportunity to speak with HUD staff about housing or to one of several supportive service organizations that specifically help veterans with employment, benefits, etc
This is the second veteran intake event that Martin has undertaken in his term as County Judge/Executive. The Judge became inspired to sponsor the second event after learning from local HUD officials about new housing vouchers for veterans offered by Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC). The housing vouchers are being made available for veteran constituents of the Kentucky elected officials who have signed the Mayor's Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness and who are in the service area of KHC.
Staff from the HUD Kentucky office will now be spreading the word to other elected officials about what Martin did. It is these types of intake events that can serve as an example of a best practice in identifying and helping veterans in the community who need aid.
