Kentucky Senior Housing Complex Exemplifies Excellence in Public-Private Funding and Design for Senior Residents

More than 120 people gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Highland Village in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The new senior development was built to help offset a shortage of affordable senior housing in Campbell County. The brand-new facility with 118 units is already completely leased and there is now over 80 people on the waiting list.

Bettie Lou Conway of Grand Towers visited for the Highland Village Grand Opening and was so impressed. "We sure do appreciate HUD and love HUD," she exclaimed. "Without HUD, I wouldn't have been able to afford such a nice place to live all of these years - none of us would!"

"This is a beautiful community utilizing smart building principles with energy efficient features and thoughtful design that will ultimately promote the residents' well-being and health," said David Railey, HUD Senior Management Analyst, during the Grand Opening celebration. With amenities such as energy-efficient appliances, a fitness room, hair salon, a community room, healthcare office, community garden and a computer lab, Highland Village provides a caring, affordable community for these seniors.

The $500,000 HUD Community Development Block Grant funding was leveraged by over $22 million in public and private contributions. Other partners included Neighborhood Foundations, the Housing Authority of Newport Kentucky, Newport Millennium Housing Corporation, Kentucky Housing Corporation, Department of Local Government, Federal Home Loan Bank, the National Multifamily Housing Council, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, Kentucky Department of Transportation, Fifth-Third and StockYards Bank.
