THOMAS RYAN - HUD KENTUCKY EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR SETS EXAMPLE FOR SERVING THE PUBLIC

LOUISVILLE - National Public Service Recognition Week is May 3-9, 2015. Being highlighted on behalf of the HUD Kentucky Field Office is Thomas (Tom) Ryan. He is an exemplary example of what public service is all about and as such was recognized as the 2014 HUD Kentucky Employee of the Year. As the office's Customer Service Representative, he helps everyone who contacts the HUD Kentucky Office for assistance and really takes the time to get to know what their situation is and offers them the best resources for their particular situation.

"Tom takes the initiative to know the programs and the contacts so that he can answer customer questions and get the customers to the right resource the first time," said HUD Kentucky Field Office Director Christopher Taylor. "He is a customer service role model that should be duplicated throughout government and the private sector."

"Tom has repeatedly impressed me with his dedication and work ethic. He is persistent in accomplishing tasks assigned. He uses his imagination when analyzing a problem and has consistently produced superior results," said Robert Kuhnle, HUD Associate Regional Counsel and HUD Kentucky Acting Field Office Director.

Tom describes himself like this, "I never thought I would be saying, 'I'm with the federal government and I'm here to help you,' but that's what I do."

A native of Louisville Kentucky, he graduated from Indiana University Southeast and attended graduate school at Spalding University in Louisville. Tom had a 25-year career in Human Resources with manufacturing and retail operations before entering public service with the federal government. Tom is a U.S .Marine Corps Vietnam era veteran.
