In an effort to help young people involved in the justice system find jobs and housing, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded $100,000 to the City of Saint Louis Housing Authority and St. Louis University School of Law Legal Clinic on April 25.

Saint Louis HUD Field Office Director, James Heard made the announcement at a press conference held at the Clinton-Peabody Al Chappelle Center. Mr. Heard congratulated SLHA on their new grant and for the outstanding work accomplished daily to safely house residents and providing a variety of resources to improve their lives. "Breaking down the barriers to reentry for juveniles will foster opportunities in education, employment, and housing, while motivating young people to make a difference in their community," said Heard.

Under the Juvenile Reentry Assistance Program (JRAP), funded through DOJ's Second Chance Act funds, HUD and DOJ are teaming up to help young Americans who've paid their debt to society rehabilitate and reintegrate back into their communities. JRAP funding was awarded to Public Housing Agencies who have a partnership with a nonprofit legal service organization with experience providing legal services to juveniles.
