The HUD Jackson Office of Public Housing in Mississippi congratulates the Clarksdale Housing Authority for their achievement in providing permanent housing to disabled residents living in surrounding nursing homes. The Bridge to Independence (www.medicaid.ms.gov/News/Bridge%20to%20Independence.pdf) is a new program funded by the Federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid to help states decrease their reliance on long-term care institutions. Mr. Timothy Plummer, HUD Public Housing Revitalization Specialist, Jackson Office of Public Housing, facilitated cooperation between Bridge to Independence (B2I) Project Managers and Housing Partners.

The B2I Housing Consultant, John Randazzo, and Project Director, Molly Parker, held a live meeting conference with Mississippi Public Housing Authorities and provided best practices to introduce PHAs to the program. As of today, Mississippi has housed 2 residents through the Bridge to Independence funding!
