The HUD Mississippi Field Office partnered with the USDA Food and Nutrition Service and the Mississippi Department of Education to help eradicate childhood hunger in Mississippi. Only about 15% of children in Mississippi who received free and reduced price meals during the school year received a meal in the summer.

USDA Food and Nutrition Service Southeast Regional Administrator Robin Bailey, at the request of the HUD Mississippi team made an appeal at the Mississippi StateĀ Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association (SAHMA) meeting to promote the Summer Food Service Program at their complexes. One management company committed to making meals available on all its sites at this meeting.

It is expected that the HUD - USDA/FNS partnership will result in an increased number of children being fed in Mississippi during the summer. Our outreach to subsidized and public housing continues.
