Neighborhood Network Site at Continental Homes

Neighborhood Network site at Continental Homes receives 21st Century Community Learning Grant. The Neighborhood Network site at Continental Homes has been notified that they are the recipient of a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. Viking Elementary School won the grant due to their partnership with Continental Homes and the Neighborhood Networks computer lab located there. The grant, which will run over a five year period, is valued at $700,000, and will be used for the implementation of after-school, weekend and summer programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This program will be an extension of the ENCORE program which already provided funding for after-school programs in the area.

An outstanding feature of the 21st CCLC grant is its reliance on community partnerships. In this instance, the partnership is between the Grand Forks Housing Authority, the Emerado Public Schools, Grand Forks Public Schools and Continental Homes. With this much community support and involvement, opportunities for all students will be expanded.

Once the grant funds are received, the site of all funded programs will be the Continental Homes Neighborhood Networks Center, one of the city's most successful Centers. Funds will pay for staff at Continental Homes to run the after school programs, supplies, a breakfast program, and some transportation costs. Everyone involved is confident that not only will the program provide outstanding resources to students who would otherwise go without, but that it will also increase the viability of an already active and vibrant Neighborhood Networks Center.
