On Saturday, November 22, HUD's Omaha Field Office Director Earl Redrick and Andrew Burgin-Anton attended the annual Veterans Stand Down at Grace University. Designed to bring together local resources into one, convenient forum for the area's homeless or at-risk veterans, the 2014 Veterans Stand Down was a great example of Omaha's philanthropic excellence.

With over 100 veterans in attendance, volunteers from the community outnumbered veterans nearly 2 to 1 at the event, assisting them with various needs. Veterans had the opportunity to speak with numerous local resources, including: the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Together Inc., NE Workforce and an array of other service providers.

Veterans were also given free health screenings, foot treatment, haircuts, food, blankets, coats and winter gear. The HUD Omaha Field Office donated 12 pairs of new shoes and boots to the event.
