On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, Newark Office Director Diane Johnson and Multifamily Director Walter Kreher participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Village at Garwood, a 72-unit affordable senior housing facility. The development has been awarded an $11.7 million Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Capital Advance, as well as a three-year rental subsidy of $1.6 million. Social and recreational activities will be provided for residents, and a variety of services will enable seniors to remain in their homes as long as possible. Other funding sources include a Federal Home Loan Bank grant, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and a NJ Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency construction loan. The development's non-profit sponsor is the Westfield Senior Citizen Housing Corp., and Monarch Housing Associates is serving as a consultant for the Village at Garwood.
