Long Branch, New Jersey - HUD New Jersey Field Office Director Maria Maio-Messano joined U. S. Congressman Frank Pallone (06-NJ) at a rededication ceremony hosted by William Eaton, Executive Director of Washington Manor Associates Ltd. The 100-unit HUD-subsidized building, home to seniors and disabled residents, was built in 1981 and needed renovations. Private refinancing provided $3 million that was invested in new windows and doors for the entire building; new roof and safety railing; new balconies and railings in the apartments, new elevator cars, hallways and common areas painted, a new high efficiency heating system, improved fire prevention equipment; and extensive renovations to exterior walls that include new insulation, brickwork painted, and waterproofed.

Special guest and former HUD Assistant Secretary for the Office of Community Planning and Development Cardell Cooper delivered remarks, stressing the importance of affordable housing and thanking Washington Manor for improving the quality of life of its residents.

Washington Manor has added a veteran preference to their tenant waiting list. Veterans that apply and meet income restrictions will be placed in every third spot on the list. This will speed up the process for veterans that need housing in their later years.
