HUD Sponsors Faith-Based Housing
and Economic Development Workshop in Rochester
On October 10, 2002, over 70 people joined HUD Assistant
Secretary of Community Planning and Development, Roy Bernardi, at
a HUD sponsored workshop in Rochester New York on faith-based housing
and economic development. Workshop attendees learned about financial
and technical resources available to the faith community, discussed
model faith-based housing and economic development initiatives, and
were informed by Assistant Secretary Bernardi of HUD's commitment
to removing program and cultural barriers within the organization
that impede full participation of the faith community in HUD sponsored
programs.
Workshop speakers included City of Rochester Mayor William Johnson,
Pastor John Simmons of New Dimensions Development, Steve Cooper
of Metroplex Development, Vanessa Williams and Bill Loewenstein
of Community Initiatives Development Corporation, John Adams of
Wells Fargo Bank and, Michele Bernier of the HUD Buffalo Office.
