HUD Project in NYC Helps Combat World Hunger

Leaders from Business and Government including Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Chairman Avi Schick, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs, Battery Park City Authority President James Gill and Founder of ESI Design Edwin Schlossberg joined with Governor David A. Paterson in the opening of the HUD funded project Mercy Corp Action Center to End World Hunger

HUD's New York Regional Director Sean Moss joined with New York State Governor David A. Paterson, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Chairman Avi Schick, Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs and others in the opening of a HUD funded project to combat world hunger and poverty. Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian agency, received a $1 million grant from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation to help support construction of the new facility located in Battery Park City. The new facility will educate visitors about the root causes of global hunger and poverty and provide them with opportunities to take action. The building sits across from the Irish Hunger Memorial, along with institutions such as the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. The Center was chosen as one of 33 grantees from more than 205 New York-based groups that applied for assistance for community enhancement efforts.
