The recent 2011 Somos El Futuro Conference, sponsored by the NYS Assembly/Senate Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, brought together several thousand New Yorkers who represented a cross-section of the state's Hispanic community including federal, state, and local elected officials, as well as community, labor, and business leaders. The conference provided a forum for the development of social, economic, legislative and budgetary initiatives of concern to Hispanic communities throughout the state. Albany Field Office personnel staffed an information booth at the event and highlighted HUD's community development initiatives, housing counseling services, and fair housing programs. Through a series of workshops, seminars, and special networking forums, issues of particular interest to the Hispanic community were highlighted and discussed. Adolfo Carrión, Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey was a panel member on the Housing forum. The forum focused on the current condition of affordable housing in New York State and ways the Hispanic community can increase their participation in the State's housing agenda moving forward.
