HUD Regional Administrator Jennings Participates in SAHMA Conference and Swearing in Ceremony of New HUD Field Office Director

During a recent visit to Puerto Rico, HUD Regional Administrator, Mr. Ed Jennings, Jr. participated in the 7th Annual State Conference of the Southeastern Association of Housing Managers and Administrators (SAHMA) and conducted the swearing-in ceremony for the new San Juan HUD Field Office Director, Mr. Efrain Maldonado. Over 400 industry partners, project owners, administrators, management agents, public housing officials, USDA RA staff, and HUD San Juan Office personnel participated in the conference and witnessed the swearing in ceremony. Mr. Maldonado, an attorney by profession, accepted the challenges of his position as the youngest ever HUD Field Office Director in San Juan.

"Efrain is the ideal person to help us nurture partnerships that will enhance the delivery of services and programs to the communities that rely on them," said HUD Regional Administrator Ed Jennings, Jr. "Efrain knows the Agency inside and out and he is well known and respected among HUD's partners."

"I am honored to serve as the San Juan HUD Field Office Director," Maldonado said. "I look forward to advancing the HUD mission working with my local colleagues, and with the HUD stakeholders throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands."

Among SAHMA invitees were the Secretary of Housing for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Mr. Miguel Hernandez - Vivoni, Esquire; Mr. George Joyner-Kelly, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Housing Finance Authority, Engineer Dennis W. Hernandez, President of SAHMA Puerto Rico, and Ms. Sylvette A. Mendez, Director of the San Juan Multifamily Program Center. Topics presented at the SAHMA Conference were on Disaster Readiness, Enterprise Income Verification, Fair Housing, REAC Maintenance, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, and Lease Enforcement Compliance.

SAHMA was founded in 1982 and represents owners and managers of affordable multifamily housing in the Southeast. SAHMA members are actively involved in many different housing programs. Their mission is to provide comprehensive and timely services for our members in the affordable housing industry.
