Knoxville Office Contributes to Veteran's 'Rally Point' Event
The Knoxville HUD Office participated in Knoxville's 'Rally Point' for Veterans on April 4, 2012 at Chilhowee Park's Jacob Building. Kellie Stines (HUD Public Housing) and Suzanne Wright (HUD's Field Policy & Management Division) spoke to hundreds of veterans attending the event to learn about housing, jobs, education, business loans, and other services for veterans. Ed Ellis, HUD Field Office Director related that the efforts of HUD along with other federal and local agencies are indicative of a willingness and desire to collaborate to more effectively help our Nation's heroes. The event was co-sponsored by Senator Bob Corker (www.corker.senate.gov/public/), and both Mayor Tim Burchett, Knox County, and Mayor Madeline Rogero, City of Knoxville. The veterans thanked people at the various booths for caring about them. Thirty-six agencies and organizations were on hand with information for veterans on VA claim assistance, education, employment, housing, mental health and much more. The event ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park. Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett (www.knoxcounty.org/countymayor/), Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero (www.cityofknoxville.org/mayor/bio.asp) and U.S. Senator Bob Corker announced 'Rally Point' on March 22nd. Mayor Burchett said in a statement, "The men and women of our armed forces sacrifice so much for this country, but far too often the programs and services promised to them are hard to navigate. This event will help make the benefits they have earned more accessible."
