Lead Hazards Outreach Event Connects with Memphis
HUD teamed up with the Memphis community on Saturday, June 17 for the "Building a Lead-Safe and Healthy Me" event as a part of June's National Healthy Homes Month. HUD's Region IV Memphis Field Office and the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) teamed up to reach over 125 citizens who attended and received information on lead-based paint and other health and safety hazards in the home and how to reduce their risks. "It was a great opportunity to connect with community," said Michelle Miller, Deputy Director of OLHCHH. "This was a true partnership with the City of Memphis, Shelby County Government, Green and Healthy Homes Initiative, FPM's Memphis Field Office, Christ Missionary Baptist Church, and various other community partners, to reach homeowners and share the resources available to take action on Lead Hazards in the home." HUD also provided the community information on the Housing Choice Voucher program and how FHA Mortgages can be a valuable resource for first-time homeowners.
