NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LATINO COMMUNITY ASSET BUILDERS (NALCAB) IN SAN ANTONIO RECEIVES $1 MILLION HUD GRANT TO ASSIST IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING EFFORTS IN RURAL AREAS

FORT WORTH - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Region VI Regional Administrator Tammye Treviño today announced that the National Association of Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB), headquartered in San Antonio, has received a $1 million grant under HUD's Rural Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Program. A total of $4,738,470 was awarded to four grantees nationwide.

The Rural Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Programsupports national nonprofit organizations with expertise in rural housing and community development to carry out development and affordable housing activities, in conjunction with local governments and community housing development organizations (CHDOs) that benefit low- and moderate-income families and persons in rural areas.

"We're very pleased that NALCAB has been chosen to receive this grant," said HUD Regional Administrator Tammye Treviño. "Given the recent economic crisis, the need for affordable housing has increased everywhere, but rural communities face unique challenges in meeting those needs. The funding provided through this grant will help nonprofit development organizations such as NALCAB work with communities to overcome those challenges and develop the skills and technical capabilities necessary to succeed."

NALCAB is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in San Antonio, TX. The NALCAB Team has extensive expertise delivering technical assistance to rural housing development organizations, CDCs, CHDOs, local governments and Indian tribes.

NALCAB will use its $1 million grant to provide rural capacity building services in six of HUD's nine regions. It will target services to New Mexico and Texas in Region VI; Florida and North Carolina in Region IV; Indiana in Region V; Colorado in Region VIII; Arizona, California and Hawaii in Region IX; and Oregon and Washington in Region X.
