Green Space Arrives at Gateway
The
Gateway green space is a half mile long linear park which was developed
to bring green open space to the west side of Salt Lake City. The
park, known as 500 West Park Block, joins the west and the east
sides and will be a catalyst for future development to the area.
The area was previously an industrial waste yard.

Contributions for the park came from the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, and the
Economic Development Administration. HUD donated $500,000 in a Community
Development Block Grant for land acquisition, which was part of
a 2.5 million dollar grant for The Gateway development project.
The park is a beautiful amenity to the Gateway commercial and apartment
complex whose 392 apartments served to house the media during the
2002 Winter Olympic Games and are now used as affordable housing.
