Gretchen Drake (pictured below), a Benwood-McMechen Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher Program participant since December 2004, started her contract for the Family Self-Sufficiency Program on March 1, 2005.

Her goals included plans to seek and maintain full time employment, working toward improving her credit score, demonstrating effective money management skills, and maintaining reliable transportation. As a single parent raising two boys, she achieved many goals while on the FSS Program: she succeeded at obtaining full time employment, maintained reliable transportation, served on the FSS Program Coordinating Committee, attended several budgeting classes held by the Housing Authority, developed a plan with Family Service Credit Council to improve her credit rating, and is now certified as a Professional IT Technician.
Gretchen completed all of her goals for the FSS Program and graduated on 09/26/08 with more than $17,000 in her escrow account. She plans on using a large portion of her escrow savings toward the purchase of a home. Congratulations Gretchen!
