Detroit, Michigan

The Detroit, Michigan Continuum of Care covers the City of Detroit and the enclave cities of Hamtramck and Highland Park. Over 340 persons representing 240 entities, including non-profit homeless assistance providers, business representatives, and government officials were involved in the development of the Continuum of Care which was guided by the Detroit/Wayne County Homeless Action Network and the City of Detroit Department of Senior Citizens and Homeless Coordination. Key elements of the Continuum of Care are: (1) emphasis on comprehensive employment and training opportunities, and affordable permanent, subsidized and supportive housing units, (2) targeting stabilization and prevention supportive services linked to other mainstream and community supports, and (3) involving community business and service groups and especially faith-based organizations in coordinated neighborhood approaches to assisting homeless persons.
