The Greater Nashua area Continuum of Care covers the City of Nashua and the counties of Amherst, Litchfield, and 6 other counties in the surrounding area. Over 200 nonprofit organizations, businesses, and state and local government agencies have collaborated to formalize coordinated strategies toward the development of seamless service provision for the community's homeless population. Greater Nashua's Continuum of Care foresees the role of the Continuum as that of a driving force in educating, unifying, and directing the community's efforts in eliminating homelessness. Among the key elements of the Continuum of Care are: (1) establishing benchmarks to accurately assess the extent of the homelessness problem, (2) creating a community-wide attitude of "zero tolerance" towards homelessness at all levels, (3) revitalizing city efforts to create more permanent, safe, affordable housing, and (4) increasing volunteer efforts and involvement on an individual level.
