HUD AWARDS $3 MILLION TO 13 PUBLIC HOUSING AGENCIES TO SUPPORT EMERGENCY, SAFETY AND SECURITY NEEDS
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today awarded $3 million to 13 public housing authorities to address emergency, safety and security needs at their public housing properties, including measures necessary to fight crime and drug activities.
HUD's Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program supports public housing authorities as they address safety and security threats that pose a risk to the health and safety of public housing residents due to violent crimes or property related crimes within the public housing community. These grants may be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items including security systems/surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.
"Like all families, those who live in public housing need to feel secure in their own homes and neighborhoods," said HUD Secretary Julián Castro. "These grants are part of our ongoing partnership with local housing authorities to improve the safety environment for their residents."
