Brief Description
HUD launched an aggressive program to sell defaulted single family and multifamily HUD-owned mortgages. By 1994, HUD owned almost 2,700 multifamily mortgages valued at more than $7 Million. HUD's single family holdings included 92,000 mortgages valued at about $4 Billion. The work required by these holdings adversely affected HUD staff's ability to perform its principle function of servicing and managing the insured mortgage inventory. Now, with fewer HUD owned mortgages, resources are available to ensure homeowners and residents receive good customer service.
