Question: Why Do So Many Americans Visit HUD's Website? (*Hint - Department of *HOUSING and Urban Development)

Monday, February 25, 2002

Answer: To get help in buying a home! "Homeownership in America continues to set records," Secretary Martinez said recently, and many of the visitors to HUD on the Internet underscore that strong demand for housing. In fact, home buying related sites - see links below - make up four of the top five HUD pages visited (the number one page is HUD's Homes and Communities "front door" on the World Wide Web).

"Housing has been the strongest sector of the economy," the Secretary said. It's also the greatest interest of browsers on HUD's website. The most popular HUD WWW home buying site gives easy access to ten federal agencies that sell single-family and multifamily properties to the public.

Single-family properties known as "HUD Homes" - where the previous homebuyer had a HUD-insured mortgage, couldn't meet the payments, and lost the home in foreclosure - are popular and can mean bargain prices for low- and moderate-income buyers! Detailed information and convenient questions and answers are available in English and also in Spanish.
