To: All HUD Employees
From: Deputy Secretary Alphonso Jackson
Secretary Martinez and I want to thank everyone who took the time to complete the HUD Organizational Assessment Survey (OAS). The survey was designed to give every HUD employee an opportunity to register their opinions, in confidence, about their workplace. When we receive the results from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which conducted the workplace satisfaction survey for the Department, we will use them as a benchmark to measure improvements we make in the months and years ahead.
- What's next: Although the general workplace satisfaction survey ended on Friday, April 5, 2002, OPM will conduct a small number of focus groups with employees selected at random from both Headquarters and field offices. For example, over the next few weeks OPM might contact non-supervisory staff in one or more Headquarters program areas, or managers from individual field offices, or other representative groups to discuss topics that are relevant to their workplace experiences. If you are contacted, we appreciate your participation because it will give us additional insight about how we can improve the Department's workplace. Once again, taking part in a focus group is strictly voluntary - just as it was in the general survey - and confidentiality of all employee responses will be strictly maintained.
- Results of the survey: Over the next few months, OPM will tabulate the responses of the thousands of HUD employees who took the survey and prepare a final report for the Department. The report will consist of statistical summaries of the tens of thousands of opinions expressed in the survey, and the Department will use it to set a baseline to measure improvements in workplace satisfaction. We also plan to make summaries of the survey responses available to HUD employees on our internal website. Please read the Daily Focus Message for on-going updates on the HUD OAS process.
We conducted the workplace satisfaction survey, and Secretary Martinez and I encouraged you to participate, because we believe that empowered and satisfied employees can provide the best service to the American people. We will take your responses seriously, because it is important for all of us to do our best if we expect to meet the important goals established for the Department. Once again, our thanks to everyone who participated in the HUD OAS.
