10:45 a.m.: HUD Headquarters Welcomes the Talented Mariachi Apache Group

Wednesday, August 28, 2002

Join the fun at an early "Hispanic Heritage Month" event today. Beginning at 10:45 a.m. in the HUD Cafeteria, hear the talented and increasingly famous Mariachi Apache group, from Nogales, Arizona. Today, join your friends or bring a friend - from 10:45 a.m. until noon in the HUD Cafeteria.

Mariachi Apache has been in existence for eight years. It is a purely local organization that has strong and active support from parents and the community. The group is the pride of the Nogales High Schools Fine Arts Department - representing Santa Cruz county, the city of Nogales, and the Nogales Unified School District at municipal functions, throughout Arizona and many parts of the USA.

In addition, Mariachi Apache has performed for the past six years in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico at the "Gran Mariachi Fiesta." The group is under the direction of Loren O. Nickel, "Don Lorenzo," who has been the director for the past six years.

Mariachi Apache has recorded three Compact Disks that have been very popular, and which the group also uses for fund raising support.

National Image Inc. is presenting the group as an early Hispanic Heritage Month treat during its only Washington, D.C. appearance this year (they are performing at E.P.A. and other agencies before returning home to Nogalez, Arizona). Hispanic Heritage Month will honor the many contributions of Hispanic Americans to our society and the Department…but today's event is just for fun and something for everyone to enjoy!
